Fall Hydrocycling Period at Johnson No. 2 Hydro

October 16 2026

HOLDREGE, Neb. – The Central Nebraska Public Power & Irrigation District announced today that the fall hydrocycling period at the Johnson No. 2 Hydroplant, located south of Lexington, will begin Oct. 17 and continue through Nov. 10.

During hydrocycling, Johnson Lake water levels may fluctuate by as much as two feet as operations are adjusted to minimize the rate of flow changes into the Platte River. Hydrocycling occurs each spring and fall in accordance with an agreement with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.

In addition, an approximately three-foot drawdown of Johnson Lake is planned around Thanksgiving weekend to allow for replacement of the Phelps Canal head gate downstream of the J-2 Hydroplant. Lake levels are expected to return to normal operating levels by mid-December.
